Internal Number: 31421 Assistant Professor - Biology FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The College of Staten Island, an accredited senior college of The City University of New York (CUNY), seeks applicants for appointment to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology,with experience in computational and/or quantitative approaches to molecular biology, cell biology, ecology and evolutionary biology or neuroscience, starting Fall 2026 semester. Outstanding candidates in other areas of biology that complement our program may also be considered. The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program that will complement the collaborative, interdisciplinary environment at the College, provide research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, and secure affiliation to any of the consortia PhD programs offered by the CUNY Graduate Center. The Biology Department offers general education courses for non-majors as well as a Biological Sciences Major with tracks in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and Masters in Biotechnology and Biology. CSI hosts CUNY?s High Performance Computer Center. The College of Staten Island (CSI) serves about 11,000 students who represent the diversity of New York City and the Borough of Staten Island. CSI's internationally recognized faculty passionately engage in scholarly and artistic activities, and together with a strong professional staff, lead students through transformational learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. The College is situated on a 204-acre site with residential housing. It is a hub of intellectual and artistic activity and a community partner and source of economic impact and job creation for the greater Staten Island area. CSI participates in several Ph.D. program offerings - through a consortium model with the CUNY Graduate Center, CUNY?s principal doctoral granting R1 institution: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Neuroscience, Physics, Physical Therapy, and Psychology. QUALIFICATIONS Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONs Ph.D. degree in Biology or a closely related field is required. We welcome applicants whose expertise complements or extends the research programs available in the department. Competitive applicants will have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications in their field, promise of teaching excellence, and a commitment to mentoring undergraduate and graduate researchers. Preferred candidates have a robust research background backed by a successful publication record, a successful postdoctoral training record, and a record of successful external funding. COMPENSATION $79,598 - $86,741 Salary commensurate with education and experience. CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
