Internal Number: 108928 Job Title: Adjunct Professor of Mathematics for the Bard Sequence Program in Washington DC Key responsibilities: The responsibility of a Bard Sequence faculty member is to teach Bard Sequence's Introduction to Statistics and Probability course in person to students enrolled at IDEA Public Charter School. This includes working closely with students to develop foundational skills in Statistics and Probability while also providing a rigorous college experience in the course. These skills include: identifying different study designs, including randomized control studies, computing descriptive statistical measures, performing inferential statistical analyses, graphing and visualizing data, identifying outliers, describing null and alternative hypotheses, and describing random variables. Faculty members will be expected to follow the Bard Sequence syllabus and any course materials that are provided. Faculty members are expected to provide students with the support that they will need to develop these skills and succeed, including providing frequent written feedback on assignments, holding office hours, and regularly communicating student progress with partners and the Director of the Bard Sequence. About the Bard Sequence Program The Bard Sequence is a program of the Bard Early Colleges (BEC) network that is founded on the belief that many high school–age students are eager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education. The Bard Sequence is an equity-based program that brings rigorous BEC dual enrolment courses to historically marginalized student populations at partner high schools and school districts. It currently serves students in the Hudson Valley of New York, Brooklyn and the Bronx, NYC, Orange, NJ, Camden, NJ, Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Tulsa, OK, and Denver, CO. The Bard Sequence has awarded over 2,000 transferable college credits since its inception in 2019. Bard invites dynamic applicants who are passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic backgrounds to teach Statistics and Probability to 11th and 12th grade students enrolled at our partner high school. Course Title: Introduction to Statistics and Probability Course Description: This is a dual enrollment course which counts for high school Mathematics credits for students as well as Bard College credits. It is an overview of descriptive and inferential statistics. Statistics is inherently applied through the course, which emphasizes solutions to problems in a variety of applied settings. Measures of location and variability, probability distributions, correlation and regression, sampling and sampling distributions, hypothesis testing and estimation with confidence intervals for means and proportions are explored. Expected Start Date / Duration of Employment: The contract covers the Fall Semester at IDEA PCS which begins on August 29th 2022 and ends on January 25th 2023. Schedule: A successful candidate must be able to teach in person at IDEA PCS 10:25 am-11:30 am on a rotating A/B week schedule as follows: "A" weeks: Tuesday and Thursday 10:25 am-11:30 am "B" weeks: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10:25 am-11:30 am Location: On-site, in-person teaching at IDEA Public Charter School, 1027 45th St NE, Washington, DC 20019.
