Under the supervision of the Program Director of the Achievement Initiative, the Social Worker will work as a member of a team to provide comprehensive student engagement services to high school students at a partner public high school in West Harlem.
The Social Worker will play a critical role in ensuring student success in achieving personal and academic milestones, graduating from high school and enrolling in postsecondary education. Primary responsibilities include maintenance of a caseload of students and provision of appropriate service interventions to students and their families, where applicable; development and implementation of college, workforce and life skill workshops; maintenance of program records and development/maintenance of data collection systems; provision of, and Field Instruction for, graduate social work students; and provision of task supervision to undergraduate student tutors and mentors.

The Social Worker will play a critical role in providing high-quality program services and will be required to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
Research best practices, develop and facilitate student-focused programming to promote personal and academic achievement under the direction of the immediate supervisor (the Program Director). Duties include scheduling and facilitating student workshops on topics of life skills, academic achievement, college preparation and workforce development; providing individual and small group counseling to students; implementing social-emotional assessments and personal learning plans with all students on the program roster; planning and implementing local college and career exploratory field trips; and identifying referral programs and resources for students in need. (45%)
Under the supervision of the Program Director, perform Field Instruction for two graduate social work students each year. Field Instruction includes reviewing weekly process recordings, providing weekly task supervision and completing required student evaluations. Provide support and guidance to mentors, tutors and Personal Learning Plan Coordinators who may be placed at the partner school to work with students. Will also perform supervision for 3-4 undergraduate students mentors and tutors. (25%)
Perform administrative duties essential to program maintenance under the supervision of the Program Director to include: data collection; maintenance of student case files and program attendance records; assistance in writing program summary reports for contract requirements; and performing student recruitment, engagement, and retention. Design data collection systems and collaborate with program staff to support them in implementation. (20%)
Assist in provision of family educational workshops; recruitment of family participants; provision of occasional home visits to families; and provision of appropriate and necessary referrals to families. (5%)

Master???s degree in Social Work
Must hold license in Social Work (LMSW)
Supervisor in Field Instruction (SIFI) certified or eligible and willing to take the SIFI class beginning in September
At least 2 years of professional work experience is required
Experience working in a school setting
Experience working with adolescents
Ability to work independently and take initiative
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Very strong organizational and leadership skills
Strong computer skills in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power Point, Access and other data management programs
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with parties at all levels, including students, families, faculty, external stakeholders, etc.
Experience in providing both individual and group counseling, as well as experience and a high comfort level in facilitating group workshops
Knowledge of youth development principles and the challenges facing low-income, minority, youth and families in urban environments
Experience in program development and implementation
Experience in managing and supervising staff
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
