Are you interested in facilitating faculty-led assessment in a creative institution dedicated to student success? Join us as the inaugural Director of Academic Assessment and help foster a culture of continuous improvement in student learning.

The Office of the Provost seeks an inaugural Director of Academic Assessment to provide vision and leadership for ongoing assessment of student learning, program review, and accreditation initiatives at Pratt, including degree-granting programs and other areas, such as Foundation and general education. The director will work closely with faculty, chairpersons, and deans as they continue to implement the academic assessment policy in their areas and will facilitate professional development opportunities in assessment across the Institute. The director will contribute to an ongoing culture of assessment at Pratt and partner with departments, schools, and the Office of the Provost to support Institute and specialized accreditation efforts. They will ensure that the value of assessment and best practices to realize it are understood by the campus community and serve as a partner in our shared work of fostering academic excellence and student success. They will also collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, and other units in the joint work of continuous improvement in student learning at Pratt.

Guided by Institute policy, academic assessment at Pratt is based on clear, evaluable student learning outcomes, using multimodal methods to evaluate student learning. Assessment is an open and transparent process of continuous improvement, conducted jointly by the faculty and administration, with results shared widely among faculty, chairs, deans, the Provost's Office, and the Academic Senate. We aspire to maintain an ongoing, consistent, and embedded assessment process that allows for honest self-reflection, examination of biases, and meaningful institutional change.

Administrative staff have the option to teach one course per semester in area(s) for which they are qualified, and are paid additionally to do so according to the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Position Duties:

• Provide leadership for ongoing and systematic academic assessment, fostering a culture that promotes continuous improvement of student learning.
• Consult regularly with programs on assessment of student learning outcomes, as well as chairs and deans in their support of faculty conducting assessment.
• Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty, chairs, and deans in the area of academic assessment.
• Work closely with the Institute Assessment Committee to provide feedback on assessment plans and reports, maintain an archive of them for members of the Pratt community and accreditors, and hold an annual Institute-wide assessment event to present and discuss a summary of the annual assessment work.
• Lead Institute-wide accreditation efforts, including coordination of self-studies and team visits.
• In collaboration with departments and programs, maintain the Institute calendar for external program reviews and provide administrative support for these reviews and specialized accreditation as requested.
• Collaborate with the Center for Teaching and Learning to help faculty integrate assessment practices into instructional design and pedagogy.
• Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment on statistical data supporting student learning assessment, program review, and accreditation.
• Seek external funding opportunities as appropriate to support assessment initiatives.
• Engage in continuous professional development through participation in professional organizations, conferences, trainings, and other opportunities.

SALARY is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000. The position will be hybrid 5 days/wk, with specifics of online arrangements to be determined.

Qualifications:

• Masters degree required, doctorate preferred. Familiarity with portfolio-based student work, preferably in the studio disciplines taught at Pratt.
• 5 years of experience in a leadership role in assessment; experience in faculty collaboration is essential.
• Knowledge of research-based best practices for academic assessment.

Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication and writing skills.
• Familiarity with multimodal assessment methods (e.g., quantitative and qualitative, direct and indirect, internal and external) and translating evidence into actionable insight.
• Ability to self-manage and work independently as well as collaborate with others.
• Must be well-organized and detail-oriented, with a desire and ability to work in an artistic environment with a diverse faculty.
• Proficiency with the Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and Zoom required.

Preferred Experience & Qualifications:

• Familiarity with Canvas, Coursedog, and student portfolio systems preferred.
• Ideally, prior experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
