Section I: Scope:

Manhattan Univeristy is seeking a qualified individual for the position of System Administrator. The System Administrator's primary focus will be to assist in designing, implementing, supporting, and optimizing campus systems including Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 Active Directory. This individual will also support our Moodle Learning Management System and interact closely with our Chief Information Security Officer and Database Administrator. The System Administrator will also help with our National Science Foundation Grant making sure that we are compliant with all requirements for our grant.

Section II: Responsibilities:

The System Administrator is responsible for the 24x7 operation of all server systems and will provide IT technical and application support to the Manhattan University community. The Systems Administrator is responsible for identifying incidents and events, analyzing problem trends, overseeing the management and resolution of issues, monitoring status, correlating events, understanding alarm diagnosis and incident trends. In addition, this position troubleshoots and resolves discovered issues under the scope of Information Technology Services supported services and performs proactive activities that help to improve the overall operation of production services.

The Systems Administrator requires technical acumen, excellent communication and leadership skills, and technical troubleshooting skills. Information Technology Services members are expected to quickly determine root cause, business impact and to resolve issues as quickly as possible to ensure all Manhattan University?s Lines of Business are not impacted.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Information Technology Services team in:
• Ensuring the overall health and security of the Moodle Learning Management System
• Ensuring the overall health and security of our OpenLDAP / Active Directory implementation
• Provisioning new systems from the ground up in classic and virtualized environments.
• Work on our National Science Foundation Grant which leverages Internet2
• Planning system upgrades and successfully implement those upgrades
• Designing and implementing backup strategies for our systems
• Developing reports and analysis to support institutional initiatives, goals, planning, and objectives.
• Implementing any hardware and software upgrades or changes as needed
• Mining logs to discover meaningful information and trends and support the Chief Information Security Officer
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, related field, or relevant experience;
• Background in some of the following Java, PERL, Python, PHP, Apache, MySQL strongly preferred;
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases;
• Background in Linux system use and administration strongly preferred;
• Background in Microsoft 365 / OpenLDAP Directories; and
• Knowledge of Moodle Learning Management Systems.
• Desired Qualifications
• Windows / Linux server management, including shell scripting;
• Active Directory (scripting, GPO, migration, sites, rights management);
• Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, PXE, and NFS.
• Server services (DNS, DHCP, NFS, Print, IIS, RDS, WDS, WSUS, Hyper-V);
• Web servers (Microsoft SQL Server, Apache, Nginx);
• Microsoft Office 365, CRM, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams;
• Knowledge of Globus, GridFTP and Globus Personal;
• Knowledge of National Research Platform, Open Science Grid and Advanced Cyberinfrastructure Coordination Ecosystem: Services & Support;
• Virtualization, clusters, high availability and redundancy with Hyper-V;
• Containerization using docker, containerd or equivalent;
• Configuration management using Ansible, SCCM;
• Backup and recovery operations;
• Knowledge of ZFS; and
• Firewall, Load Balancer and Reverse Proxy operations.

Salary: $75,000 - $95, 000
