Program Manager

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of the Barnard Center for Research on Women (BCRW), the BCRW program Manager is responsible for developing and administering the Center's programming (lectures, conferences, non-credit courses, etc.) and special projects. The Program Manager ensures that BCRW's public programming, both online and in-person, as well as the annual Scholar and Feminist Conference, is run in an efficient and welcoming manner so as to present BCRW and Barnard College in the best possible light to the public. The Program Manager tracks BCRW's day-to-day budget. The Program Manager also serves as a point of contact for public inquiries and connects members of the public to the Director or other appropriate staff members. The Program Manager works closely with staff, students and faculty from across the College to coordinate BCRW's operations and serves as a primary liaison with Events Management, IMATS, and Facilities. The Program Manager supervises BCRW's team of student Research Assistants, assigning and overseeing their research projects and involvement in BCRW's day-to-day operations. The Program Manager also develops and maintains BCRW's network of interested students and connections with student organizations.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

PROGRAMMING

The Program Manager works collaboratively with the Director, Research Director, and Associate Director on annual programming, aligning it with the Center's commitments and long-term priorities for supporting faculty/student/community partnerships.

• Aids the Director in conceptualizing and developing new programs.
• Works with others at the Center to develop the arts component of programming, cultivating collaborations and partnerships with others across the College, University, and community, as appropriate.
• Develops research on conference topics and potential speakers.

Lead Manager Scholar & Feminist Conference

• Meet with Co-Directors to determine next year's topic.
• Does research on connections between lines of work and possible conference topics.
• Develops potential formats and speakers.
• Meets with Co-Directors to establish invitation list.
• Sends out invitations and follow-up.
• Writes conference and component (panel, workshop, performance, exhibit descriptions).
• Works with Program and Communications Director on Promotion.
• Works with Postbac Fellow on Logistics.

Campus and External Relations

• Serves as liaison between the Center and other College offices that work on events, including Communications, Special Events, Room Reservations and IMATS. Represents BCRW on relevant College Committees.
• Works with the Center's Advisory Board on developing programming.
• Facilitates cosponsorships of events and programs across the College, University, and beyond.

Administers the operation of all Center programming, including coordinating planning for major conferences.

• Maintains and manages schedule of all Center events.
• Sends and tracks invitations and manages overall production of the event.
• Works with the Center's Post-Baccalaureate Fellow on logistics for all events.
• Develops and supervises special projects.

STUDENTS

Supervises and mentors the Center's undergraduate student research assistants, including matching the student researchers with Center projects--both those initiated by the Center and by research groups.

Research Assistants

• Supervises RAs, assigning them tasks and projects and ensuring their completion.
• Works with Program and Communications Director to support RA contributions to student publications (e.g. BCRW blog).
• Organizes the RAs into a student communications team producing social media communications that focus on other students as the primary audience (e.g. Instagram, TikTok).
• Makes sure RAs are available for upcoming events.
• Schedules and plans RA gatherings.

Student Network

• Maintains and expand list of students interested in BCRW's work (right now it's about 100 people).
• Sends updates about BCRW events, student programming, and RA job openings.
• Works with student volunteers.

Student Organizations

• Develops and maintain relationships with student groups relevant to BCRW's work.
• Coordinates with student groups to use the BCRW conference room for meetings.

III. OFFICE ADMIN

Budget Reports

• Manages day-to-day tracking operations of the BCRW budget.
• Works with the Senior Program Assistant to produce regular budget reports that translate the budget as managed by the Senior Program Assistant in object codes into BCRW's program needs (which run across multiple object codes).

Space Management

• Manages BCRW's space to maximize availability for students and faculty working with BCRW.
• Ensures that spaces are clean and have the necessary materials to facilitate research meetings and projects.

• Orders office supplies upon request.

Public Management

• Serves as liaison with peers from collaborative partners and community organizations.
• Manage public inquiries, including the bcrw@barnard.edu email address:
  • Responds to questions about accessibility, event recordings, and RSVPs.
  • Forwards inquiries to the relevant BCRW staff person / Director.

• Excellent grammar, writing and proofreading skills.
• Demonstrated ability to download and integrate data from various sources and systems
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and administer a broad range of tasks

Qualifications:

• Bachelors' degree
• Min. 3 years' experience in higher education or non-profit
• Excellent computer skills and ability to acquire new skills as the job requires, including Microsoft Office Suite, FileMaker, WebAdvisor, Colleague (Datatel), and ADP Timesaver

Pay Range: $68,000 - $73,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
