Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- BS degree in mechanical engineering or engineering physics, or closely related field
- Minimum of three (3) years of full-time progressively responsible relevant work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical designs, analysis, materials and manufacturing processes to develop creative solutions for complex interfaces, installation, tooling designs and overall integration
- Proficiency in the use of 3-D CAD (Inventor or SolidWorks, or ProEngineer) tools, and ASME standards and engineering codes
- Knowledge of engineering fundamentals and handbook formulas, material properties, practical application of dimensioning and tolerances
- Clear and concise written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to work effectively with the scientific and procurement staff of the project, laboratories, and stakeholder personnel, often in an international environment
- Proficient with MS-Office tools
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of machine shop practices, vendor products
- Experience with structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, such as ANSYS.
Environmental, Safety & Health:
- Human factors: mental concentration, repetitive motion, sitting, tight work schedule, visual demanding
- Physical factors: confined space, cryogens, Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH)
- Ability to visit construction and installation sites including uneven terrain and difficult underground spaces
Other:
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods
- LBNF/DUNE will be located at SURF in Lead SD, it is expected that longer term engineering will be needed in SD
- Appointment level will be commensurate with experience and qualifications
- This is a fully onsite position located at BNL
