Reporting to the Director of International Admissions, the assistant director will be responsible for the overall recruitment of prospective graduate and undergraduate international students from designated countries or by specific college. Extensive international and domestic travel to cover college fairs, visit high schools, meet with agents and host regional information sessions is required. The assistant director is also responsible for the review and evaluation of applications for admission in addition to helping to guide a communication and outreach program to prospective students and families. Outreach and follow-up to recruit students and the ability to develop and implement new strategies to attract and retain qualified students is also a must. A close working relationship with the Immigration Services Office will be a key component of the position. The successful candidate will also have a basic understanding and ability to manage international culture and diverse educational backgrounds.

CORE DUTIES:

• Assist in the identification, recruitment and enrollment of international students.
• Visit secondary schools, community colleges, ESL programs and other institutions or programs in the U.S. and abroad.
• Represent the University of New Haven at college fair and college night programs domestically and internationally.
• Responsible for the management of recruitment agents abroad, using analytics and reporting to identify areas of strength or concern, executing performance appraisals of agents in support of university policies and procedures, and proactively seeking new opportunities to ensure international recruitment goals are achieved.
• Provide admission counseling to prospective international students and be responsible for day-to-day communications with students in person, via telephone, text or email.
• Responsible for carrying out aspects of the admission and recruitment process including, but not limited to, planning and executing fall and spring international and domestic recruitment travel.
• Coordinate time-sensitive application workflow and process international applications, including the evaluation of international candidates for admission, utilizing university guidelines to determine admissibility of students and ensuring that accepted students receive appropriate communication including visa processing.
• Thorough individual and group interactions, counseling prospective students, parents and guidance professionals throughout the college application and selection process.
•  Understanding and applying University policy and protocols to enrollment activities; ability to explain and effectively counsel students on these policies and protocols.
• Other duties as needed to meet the University’s Mission and Enrollment goals

• Bachelor's degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
• Ability to represent the University of New Haven in a variety of situations and be able to competently interact with a diverse population of prospective students, faculty and staff.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
•  Excellent organizational, planning, and project management skills.
• High level of technical skills and proficiency in Microsoft suite of products required;
• Ability to travel on behalf of the University representing the school at various recruitment events.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required for the travel component of the position.
• Must be fully vaccinated in order to be in compliance with University policies regarding travel.
• Ability to work evening and weekends, as needed.
• Must demonstrate a tireless commitment to enrolling and retaining a diverse student body.
