The Columbia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, renewable position of Assistant Director of Sports Performance/Associate Director of Sports Performance and Associate in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education. The two positions are outlined below.

Assistant Director of Sports Performance and Associate role

The Assistant Director of Sports Performance is responsible for assisting with the implementation of the strength and conditioning program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervising the strength and conditioning program for assigned varsity sports programs
• Instructing student-athletes in the proper strength and conditioning techniques for optimizing performance, development and reducing injuries
• Remaining current in the knowledge and advances of cardiovascular conditioning, weight training, speed training and nutrition for male and female student-athletes
• Representing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education in various public relations and fund-raising activities as assigned
• Teaching within the required Physical Education curriculum as assigned
• Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to NCAA, Ivy League Conference, University, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education rules and regulations
• Contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Department

• Assuming other duties as assigned by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education

Associate Director of Sports Performance and Associate role

The Associate Director of Sports Performance is responsible for managing or assisting the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach with the organization, management, and development of the strength and conditioning program for Columbia's 31 sports programs. Teach in the undergraduate physical education program. Ability to work within the framework of NCAA and Ivy League regulations.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervising the strength and conditioning program for assigned varsity sports programs.
• Representing the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education in various public relations and fund-raising activities as assigned.
• Remaining current in the knowledge and advances of cardiovascular conditioning, weight training, speed training and nutrition for male and female student-athletes

• Contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships with all members of the Department
• Assuming other duties as assigned by the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics and Physical Education

Assistant Director of Sports Performance and Associate role

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Qualification:

• Two years of related experience
• Certified by a nationally recognized accredited strength and conditioning certification program: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) strength and conditioning coach certified (SCCC).

Preferred Qualification:

• Master's degree in Exercise science or related field.
• Working knowledge of force plate application, and data analytics.
• Successful experience in strength and conditioning preferably at the NCAA Division I or professional level

Associate Director of Sports Performance and Associate role

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Qualification:

• Eight years of related experience.
• Certified by a nationally recognized accredited strength and conditioning certification program: National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa) strength and conditioning coach certified (SCCC).
• Strength and conditioning knowledge specific to the sports of Columbia University.
• Experience delivering training to the Arts and Science of Strength Training and Conditioning.
• Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualification:

• Master's degree in Exercise science or related field.
• Successful experience in strength and conditioning preferably at the NCAA Division I or professional level
