The Rockefeller University seeks a Laboratory Manager, Metabolic Regulation and Genetics to join Metabolic Regulation and Genetics. An entry-level Laboratory Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities within a fast-paced research laboratory, including ensuring the operation of essential equipment, maintaining adequate supplies for routine experimental procedures, tissue culture, and overseeing junior research technicians performing general lab duties. The person will work as part of a team in identifying and characterizing genes that regulate nutrient pathways in cancer cells. This position is support staff, not scientific staff. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all scientific lab operations by students/postdocs are streamlined.
Bachelor's degree in science required; Master's degree or a minimum of two years of full-time experience in a research laboratory preferred. Knowledge and experience with general laboratory equipment and materials required. Experience or interest in handling laboratory animals a plus. Must have a strong work ethic, motivation, curiosity, and enthusiasm to learn and perform what's beyond the given tasks and responsibilities, and strong interpersonal skills, respect, and a positive demeanor to build trust and lead the team when necessary. Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and proficiency with standard software such as MS Office, Acrobat, and Photoshop/Illustrator. Previous experience managing personnel in a scientific environment desirable. The ability to perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques with no or little guidance, including proficiency in handling mammalian cells (tissue culture), strongly preferred. Knowledge and experience with general laboratory equipment and materials and experience and/or skills to repair basic laboratory equipment preferred.
