Whittier College invites applications from interested and qualified candidates for a one-semester part-time adjunct position to teach two sections of Social Class and Inequality in Sociology to begin September 4, 2019. The class is a three credit course with two sections capped at 25 students and will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 to 12:20 and 1:30 to 2:50. The appointment will be for one semester. Social Class and Inequality is aimed at first and second year students and examines a range of explanations for the persistence of different forms of inequality (primarily, but not exclusively) in the US. The course pays careful attention to race/ethnicity, gender, social class and sexuality as these structures mark main axes of power and social inequality. Finally, the course examines solutions to inequality. The class should include writing assignments and discussion opportunities.
Applicants for the position should have a minimum of a Master's degree in Sociology. We will be considering applicants from all specialties.
