The New School seeks an Associate Director of Admission within the College of Performing Arts (CoPA), responsible for providing leadership and direction for the recruitment and enrollment of students to Mannes School of Music, the School of Drama and the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Reporting to the Director of Performing Arts Admission, the Associate Director will help lead recruitment planning for qualified undergraduate and graduate performing arts students.
We are looking for a knowledgeable, motivated, personable, organized and flexible individual to ensure a positive experience for current and prospective students, faculty, staff and alumni. A strong customer service orientation and the demonstrated ability to perform a variety of complex and diverse tasks involving independent judgment and action are required. The Associate Director will specialize in the performing arts, while also representing the range of offerings at The New School to students and families, faculty and influencer networks. This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States, and some international travel as planned. The incumbent must be flexible to work weekends and evenings during high travel and other high volume admission times. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.
●Strategize recruitment planning across schools within CoPA for undergraduate and graduate students, with the purposes of promoting the college's visibility and general recruitment efforts and meeting enrollment goals across programs ●Serve as member of the recruitment planning team in development of overall Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) recruitment strategy ●Assist the Director of Performing Arts Admission with the development and implementation of policies and practices and oversight and management of admission staff within CoPA ●Prepare, review and executive admissions decisions on applicant file data ●Manage daily operations for Performing Arts Office of Admission, including direct supervision of clerical staff ●Liaise with Admission Communications team in the development, maintenance and execution of the college's communication and social networking plans to students across the admission pipeline ●Identify new technologies and systems in the recruitment and application review processes to increase effectiveness and efficiency of admission staff, especially as it relates to assisting performing arts students ●Run reports to assess effectiveness of controls, accuracy of departmental records, and efficiency of operations; this includes review of student program enrollment documentation, analysis of data and software applications ●Collaborate with, and engage, stakeholders across the university, including Strategic Enrollment Management, academic deans at Mannes, Drama and Jazz, and others ●Interview students, conduct group information sessions, represent CoPA at on campus events and travel throughout the United States to represent The New School at high schools, community colleges, college fairs, public and service organizations, and performing arts festivals
●Bachelor's degree, Performing Arts area of expertise preferred ●Possess a strong knowledge of both graduate and undergraduate education admissions and recruitment strategies ●Experience with a performing arts school environment, including the ability to relate well to artist/practitioner faculty ●Driver's license and valid Passport ●Excellent oral and written communication skills ●Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with CRM or databases
●Masters degree in higher education or performing arts ●Excellent judgment, problem-solving, diplomacy and discretion with the ability to manage confidential information. ●Ability to work well cross-functionally and influence across the organization. ●Demonstrated experience managing staff. ●Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs. ●Flexibility and ability to be nimble in a dynamic, progressive environment.
