Manhattan College’s Communication Department seeks a professional staff member, with the title of Producer/Director, to spearhead the College’s production and live-streaming of its sporting events in conjunction with our relationship with Disney/ESPN and that company’s new platform/app, ESPN+.
The College charged the Communication Department to fulfill the terms of this initiative through the creation of a Sports Media Production concentration (passed by the New York State Education Department in March 2018). Students who pursue this concentration will, under the aegis of the Producer/Director, serve as the production crew, via their capstone course, “Advanced Sports Media Production,” which they are allowed to take three times for credit.
The Producer/Director will be responsible to teach this course, which is to be scheduled next year based upon the men’s and women’s home basketball games we are contracted to produce and stream. Beyond this, both the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference and ESPN expect us to expand our offerings, over time, to other home-based sporting events and additional programming, to the extent we are able and that the concentration and its students can support this. The Producer/Director is expected to strategize, manage, and steer this planned growth.
As this is a ground-floor opportunity, we seek a motivated and forward-minded self-starter who will be charged to help build, over time, this program, its offerings, and the professional opportunities it creates for our students. (The concentration will also have a full-time faculty member whose responsibility is to teach and prepare the students to do sports production-based work.)
The successful candidate should have demonstrable professional experience as either a Producer or Director in video production, ideally in sports, and ideally in a remote studio environment.
To start July 1, 2019. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
Please submit application (CV, cover letter, supporting documents) online using link below to be considered. Applications should not be emailed.
